This was the only thing I got done for Christmas.

I had never made any end grain "butcher" blocks so I tried for coasters.

The individual cuts were 7/16" of an inch. I ended up with about 30 of them from one glue up block. I gave them to my team at work also.

I was really happy with the precision of the blocks and alignment.

My two kids ( 37 and 40 yo) were happy to have something Dad made.

Yes, I used my band saw a ( HD16 w/ 4.5hp and trimaster blade).

I ran everything thru the jointer, then did resaw to about 1/2" on the band saw.

Next I set my planer at 7/16" and ran all of the 1st set of boards thru the planer.

Then did first glue up.

Next you re-saw again. The trick her is to resaw, then run thru jointer each time to get perfect clean surface. So after the 2nd re-saw each piece has a jointer side and a BS side. Next run them thru the planer. This gives you a 2nd smooth side. The trick is the planer setup did not change. So I got exactly the same thickness.

Now you glue up again.

Then you have a long block and I used the cut-off saw to cut off the final pieces like cookies.

I used the 6" belt sander to remove ( most ) the saw marks.

I did some of them with BLO and some with BLO and wipe on satin poly.

I did not keep a picture journal. I need to make a 2nd group and keep a picture journal and post on my new blog ( and website )
