I've seen them. Not the Ritz, but a solution for the hard-working Japanese "Salary Man" leaving the office at 10pm who can't face the 2 hour train ride home.
And, like all things in Japan, they're clean and safe.
Maybe not so good if you're a light sleeper and the guy next door snores like a lumberjack!

Many of them not so much - I'm told by friends who travelled there that they're more of the Japanese equivalent of a Motel 6. That said, I think the idea is terrific - it sounds a heckuva lot better than sharing a room at a youth hostel with someone who will probably try to steal your cell phone and then place $3,000 worth of calls to Guam.
 
Im sorry, but when Im ready to be encapsulated and put into a wall, I wont need a tv or radio.
It sort of reminds me of the trend where people are choosing to be buried above ground in a wall, pick your spot, slide on in.
