Why Insurance Costs So Much

If I remember liability law from my college course in law - if your negligence starts a chain of events, you are responsible for the results of the chain of events. ......

...... Had it not been for the dog, the event wouldn't have happened.

Had not the fool been walking on the sidewalk, etc. this would not have happened, Or what about the fellow who let his dog run rampant and knocked up another dog which resulting on the client having the puppy which grew into a barking dog. Is he not ultimately rsponsible.

Are we not in the 21st Century? Walking is such archaic means of transportation. (See what the Green Movement is creating) Did he not set the whole train of events in motion by not riding in a car or using a Segway? He most likely startled the dog by his presence, how about the Post Tramatic Stress that the dog must face. I see a host of courtroom activities in the works.

All this irks me as I believe in the Schmit Happens point of view. Without mallace, I think we just need to deal with it and move on.

Good point, Rob. However, Ford didn't when their gas tanks were blowing up. They calculated paying the lawsuits was cheaper than a fix. Removing limits would wake them up fast.

I don't know anything about the gas tanks on Ford, unless you mean the Pinto's that were rear ended, but I do remember back in the early '79, I was called to jury duty in California. A young man was suing Ford because his SUV had rolled over his leg and broke it.... seems he own one of the early models of 4 wheel drive that required you to park the vehicle and make an adjustment to the front wheel hubs... as I recall, the instructions were to park the vehicle on a level surface, set the brakes and then make the adjustment... this young man parked on an incline and either didn't set the brake or the brake failed... at any rate the vehicle rolled over his leg. When the jury panel was being escorted into the court room, I saw him in the hall way... he walked as well as I do, but when he arrived in the court room, he had this terrible terrible limp....
I don't know the final outcome, I was between jobs and had an interview the next morning, plus I was a single father with a 6 year old at home and no one to care for him, so I got excused from the trial. The attorneys were expecting the trial to last 6 weeks or more.
