Veneering Questions

I just started to try and saw my own veneers. I'm using a Carter accurite 1/2" by 3 tooth blade on my GO555 saw and am getting 6 to 7 pieces from a piece of 4/4 pecan. I think that is pretty good.

Commercial veneer is very reasonably priced and is available in all kinds of exotic patterns and species. The veneer people pay top dollar for logs and they get the best.

Sawing your own veneer is worth while if the project is small and you don't have any commercial veneer on hand, or you have an unbelievable board and want to use the figure in multiple places or to book match it. Or if you need to repair an antique (antiques have thicker veneer than commercial veneer).

Or, of course, if you just want to learn how to saw your own veneer.

But long term, look at commercial veneer. You'll be surprised at what's available.
