Finally decided the only way to make a goblet is do it. Since the cup did not explode during hollowing and the stem is smaller than the cup I consider it a successful effort. All comments appreciated

Lovely first effort. Also I loved you succinctness - didn't blow up and the stem is smaller than the goblet - as objectives. Good one. :thumb:

Very good. :thumb: Now put something in it and enjoy. ;)
Next week my woodturning club is going to have a demo by one of the members on making thin stemmed goblets. The guy giving the demo is a very big man with ham sized hands. Least likely you would think to do anything delicate. But, he has a real talent for turning tiny-tiny finials and really thin goblet stems.

Hi Gary,
As another turner of goblets, I think you did excellent if this is your first... my first didn't look quite so delicate. What is the wood... looks great.

What tool did you use to hollow the cup? I have a termite tool that seems to work best for me.
For the stem, I tend to use a narrow spindle gouge, but some times use a 1/2 inch round scraper ...
I've tried a 1/2 inch skew, but that give me problems.
