I have been playing around with a Skin on Frame canoe design for a while now. Never was happy with what I had even though I felt like it was a good design. But I just couldn't bring myself to build it.
Yesterday a group of us went fishing on a local small river and of course I took one of my kayaks. While I had a ball, it convince me that canoe is a much better fishing platform for these rivers! So I am about to get serious on designing the canoe.
The things I quickly found that convinced me were the ability to lay a rod (or tack box or paddle) inside as opposed to balancing it on the deck. Being able to move around, look and cast behind you easier. And stretch your legs!! There is something different about sitting a kayak and paddling it. I could hardly walk when we got out. All this just motivated me to move it to the top of my list.
Here are some photos from yesterdays trip. It was a blast!
