Decided i would try making finials for my vessels and post some pictures.

Pictures 1-2 are natural colored vessels with black and natural color finials
Pictures 3-4 is a tall finial on a dyed vessel
Picture 5 all natural vessel with natural small finial
Picture 6 was my first attempt at making a finial and i was a little to big for the vessel but what the heck
Picture 7 Pine vessel with small finial on a black wrought iron stand
Picture 8 Misc projects with finials
Picture 9 short fat vessel with natural finial on

The tall finial in pics 3-4 was the harder because the more narrow you get with it in the lathe the more wobble/flex you get
The shorter finials seem to be much easier to turn

Still learning the ropes but its all in fun.............................thanks to all

i have seen a fair amount of tools used for turning but t a stehascope is a new one???? how do you use that in the spinny world as a tool:huh: checking for the hollow sound in the hollow vessels

Yep - its used for checking wall thickness....By tapping and listening carefully you can achieve consistent wall thickness from top to bottom. Just make sure the lathe is off when you try this at home........;)
