Chestnut

I was thinking about dipping the blanks in HOT paraffin Frank. Similar to how I used to dip traps. If I can find a cheap source for paraffin it would speed up the coating process. Many of the foreign woods I buy are shipped this way. I am supplying blanks to a local Woodcraft store and was approached by Penn State Industries to supply them with domestic hardwood bowl blanks.

I use Old Wax Candles melted in a baking tin on a hot plate, some 'Posher' individuals use an old electric fry pan. Snapped up whenever a local store is having a post Xmas clear out or similar they work out cheaper than buying in new paraffin wax.

Advantage with hot wax is that if heated just below smoking level it boils out some of the surface water as steam from the end grain when dipping and it sucks back into the surface as it cools.
