This is not a traditional breadboard end, I cheated. I glued the center 10" and let the ends float. My top ended up thinner than I had planned and I was concerned with the strength of the top considering how it sits on the chest. Don't take that as a recommendation though, I might still be making another top next year. I'm sure the length of the top does matter.
Cynthia: I don't expect it to make any noticable difference with this dark of stain on it. For an oiled or pickled wood it is noticable though.
