Flash Floods in Arkansas..

Hey Frank,
I just googled your town to see if you were close to the flash flood area... looks like you're north of it...

Hate to hear about all the lives lost over your way...

Yes reminds me of the Big Thompson canyon in Colorado and then the dam breaking in Rocky Mountain National park back 28 years or so ago...

Go to bed camping and never make it back up.....

Prayers to all the family's.

Our daughter is working in that area now and knows a lot of people who, undoubtedly know people affected. Small state, everyone knows almost everyone else.
Right now, with 16 dead and more than 30 still unaccounted for, it is the worst flood disaster in recorded Arkansas history.
All the wrong factors just came together at the same time to cause this. Popular camping area, nothing like this had ever happened before.

Funny news item in the local news here.. after the disaster in Arkansas, the officials at a local campground in Pigeon Forge area are looking into "emergency evacuation procedures" in one area of the campground that floods about 4 times a year...:dunno:

Glad your daughter is safe... tell her to keep safe.

The Ozarks, almost by definition, is one half ravines, hollers, gullies, river bottoms and flats. The other half is ridges, hills and mountains. Water runs downhill. Small stream and rivers can become quite swollen and rapid in a short period of time, especially if the ground is already saturated. What happened at the camp area was an extreme example of all factors coming together at one time.
Dead count is up to 18 and still more than two dozen unaccounted for. Very sad.
