Sometimes what I do is drill the hole first and then shape the tote around the hole.
Otherwise, I drill the hole half way then turn the tote over and drill the other half. You might think you'll miss the hole but with a line drawn on the outside (where the hole should track) and some careful adjustment you'll find you can hit the other hole pretty well.
A drill bit can wander quite a bit in that length. I screwed up a few totes before I tried the other approaches I mentioned.
