Wooden Curls

Two little girls came to my shop,
Each one my own Granddaughter.
They came by to see if Gramp would like
A good cold drink of water.

I thanked them as they turned to go-
They tarried by the door,
To watch the long pine shavings curl
As they fell upon the floor.

'Twas then I heard Roberta say
"Gramp makes the bestest curls,
He makes an awful lot of them
For all his bestest girls."

Then each stooped down to gather some
And put them in their hair
Then gaily waved me good-by,
Walked off with jaunty air.

As time goes by in my minds eye
I see two little girls
Who love their Grandpa now as when
They wore his wooden curls.
