2010 the year of the illness?

Steve we are just getting old and things are not holding up as they once use to. I don't think I have had one year without some form of injury on the job site as it is just the nature of the beast. I have missed serious injuries and death though unless you count a broken back and knee surgery, hearing damage and torn tendons. Just goes with the job and refusing to accept the fact that I am not 20 anymore. Though the mind just seems to forget when I am around the 20 yr olds. Then the body reminds me and we just don't heal as fast.

For some while i have been dropping things, worse of which was my fork whilst eating, As Spring turned to summer, weakness began to be apparant, and then while working for U.S.Census I had difficulty writing letters inside small boxes on the forms, then difficulty turning the key in the ignition. Go to Dr for a checkup. Then a series of tests to find nothing, Loosing weight even though my U.S.Census work began with daily meetings for Burger King Breakfast...

Several MRIs, Cat Scans, 16 different Blood Tests, EMG tests, Urine tests, Upper GIs, Lower GIs, Repeated tests , and Visits to 6 Specialists... Ta Da, We got a cause, just got no cure... This has been an eventful year fr me as well.

Oh yea I forgot the respritory infection/ asthma (with no family history)/ sinus infection that they are still trying to figure out:dunno:, For the past 15 yrs . Finally getting some results after sinus surgery constantly wearing a dust mask in the shop and I have just started allergy shots for this coming year. :thumb: Fingers crossed that this will be the answer.

Ahw - geez: I don't want to keep track anymore. I'm only 72.

I bowl (Big ball - fat 10 pins)(as opposed to small ball candle or duck pins) in three "Seniors" Mixed Leagues each week and believe me when I tell you that we are excited just to be able to attend and bowl.

Every now and then, and more frequently than I like, someone doesn't show up anymore and we have a moment of silence. Albeit there are three guys in their 90's and lots of women that age that still bowl. A couple of bowlers have had strokes and still bowl and the majority of us have arthritis of some sort. We all use lighter weight balls, I don't think anyone uses the 16# balls anymore. More like 8 - 10# balls.

And to answer the question - no I am not a really good bowler - just average for a recreational bowler.

It's Ok Cynthia, it's not a competition anybody wants to win. Amazes me how many people on this board were ill or injured this year.

I agree there. This is one thread that I wish I didn't fit into. Woke up this morning sore as heck. Don't see the ortho until Monday afternoon. Shoulder seemed to be doing pretty well for a few days but the last couple of days have been no picnic. Now I'm starting to have an issue with the elbow. I think I may be in for more X-rays on Monday. Something just doesn't seem right.

Hopefully, my status will remain, no injuries this year other than a nick now and then when I get careless with something and the tools remind me I'm not superman... If the trend remains in place, I had emergency surgery in September last year for the hernia, which I caused a few years prior by using my belly as a base for the end of a tree triming pole...About 7 years before last year's surgery, I had emergency Appendectomy... prior to that about 7 or 8 years previous, I had some minor problem with my urinary system and had some minor surgery for that, about 6 or so years prior to that I kicked a downhole gun off a stack and broke the big toe in 6 places (that hurt!). Maybe, just Maybe I'll have another 7 or 8 years before I have to have anything else done... by then I'll be so old probably won't care. So far, I've no problems with the normal body joints... my shoulders will get sore sometime from over use, but no problems with the knees or hips. I take a glucosamine supplement every day and that seems to keep the joints in pretty good condition.
