Came out very cool i think every house needs one of these, that way i would not have to deal with wrapping 
I had wondered if you were going to be painting this unit. Would be a waste of good maple to paint it no?
That Ribon box is a neat idea, you could have built that in and had a flap for replacing ribbon. then it would all have been wood.
