Cottonwood Turning Question ?

What I know about Cottonwood:

Stinks like all get out, if you let it sit and stay wet very long.

Doesn't give off much heat in the fireplace, but it's a nice quiet burn....no sparks.

Great for horse fences....sour to the taste, so horses won't chew in it. A soft, hardwood.

Some is pretty boring, others loaded with "tiger" stripes.

This stuff can grow HUGE. Sometimes 70% of it's green weight, is in the water it's holding.

I have a stabilizing setup, and Cottonwood stabilizes well.

Vaughn------------you were kidding about the wood and burning or were you serious ????

I dont know about the cottonwood you have there, but our cottonwood is stinky, and the ranchers I know won't burn it for the same reason. To be kind, my woodcraft guy says it has the "barnyard scent" to it.
My 1st score last yr was about 60# of it from down the street. I think I have about 57 left. Hey, it's mostly boring, but you might find a nice pattern or two. As mentioned if you've got wood, you probably want to pass on the 2nd load
