Sanding thought

Having little else to look forward to in the face of doom...I opened up the new Woodturning Design and caught Russ Fairfield's article on a goblet. I never advocate the non-lable use of tools, but the 2" sanding pad on a jacobs chuck for sanding the bottom of that goblet was a revelation. The way Vaughn taught me to do the bottom of HF is similar...but with the chuck in the business side of the lathe makes any sanding chore of that nature safer...both hands can hold the work and at low speeds...seems like a great idea. Any thoughts and has anyone tried this method?
By the way..God rest a good man....See ya Russ!!

Jim, do you mean like this? I've been doing it ever since I started turning.
