What the heck are you talking about?

Using your phones data connection from a laptop or computer. Some devices have the built in hotspot, others have to use a USB cable to connect. Allows you to get on the internet from your laptop when your not at home.

Just have to be aware that most "Unlimited" data plans have a normal usage disclosure of say 5GB. You go over that and you'll be charged royally per MB, which can add up quick. Also some providers will either make you pay for tethering to use it. Apps like PDANet you buy and can do the tethering (via a reverse proxy app) without having to pay a monthly fee, just don't get caught with it if you take your phone for service.;)
