This is a very busy time for me and my small business and usually means the end of my lathe season but I did manage to 'spin' a few chunks of wood. As usual all comments either pro or con are welcome!

This is a spalted maple hollow form finished with beeswax and mineral oil.

Here is a shot of a small spalted maple hollow form vase with a 'mystery' wood finial. The wood for the finial was gathered from an old pallet

This one is a small weed pot and is a multi part turning of spalted maple

The last is a splated maple natural edge bowl finished with multiple coats of rattle can pre-catalyzed lacquer

Nice work Peter:thumb:!! Sorry it's the end of your turning season...it looks like you were just getting started:(. What are the sizes are your pieces?

Peter, nothing like ending on a great note!! (or a great turn for this example! :thumb:) Those are beautiful, I can only imagine turning them cause I evidently use only explosive wood (they blow up!!!:rofl:).
So what's the seasonal business that is taking you away from your lathe???

Greetings

Sorry! I should have provided some dimensions for the turnings.
The NE bowl is 7 1/2 wide and between 4 and 3 1/2 high.
The vase with the finial is 61/2" tall by about 2 1/4 wide.
The small weed pot is only 3 3/4 high by 2 1/2 wide.
The the hollow form is about 6" by 2 1/2 high.

For those of you who are interested, I run a small maintenance business here in Ladner where my low cost skills are much in demand.

Lucky man!! I put myself through Respiratory school as a Handyman and had a ball! I started just wanting 3 days a week...no more than 25 hrs a week. Ended up working for a couple of Realtors fixing houses for sale. Picked up tons of work from the referrals from that. Had to cut way back to finish school. I sure hope it's a fun job for you...I still miss some parts of it :D

Still fun

I still enjoy the work. I had sort of retired in 1997 and like you just can't seem to get away from it. I am now past my mid 60's and continue to be busy, at lest in the spring and summer. I really would rather be 'spinning' wood!
