memorialized in stone

Doesn't look like a grave marker to me.... That tyke would have been pretty young to be in the Air Force. :D

I'm guessing service dates recognition?

So you enroled in the army when I was born:huh:

Heh. I was already two years old. :p

Frank, based on fairly recent pics I've seen of you, I'd say you've held up real well. (Unless you enlisted when you were about 12.) :D

Now you can spill the beans...what's that engraved stone part of?

It is simply a veteran's memorial wall. There are two in town, one at the courhouse square and across the street at a dedicated memorial plaza. The stones were sold to help finance the building of the plaza. My wife bought the stone for me. A tiny part of local history that will remain for a long time. My daughter photographed it when she last visited.
