I'm building a new shop. I have never used any kind of dust collection system before other than a small shop vac to clean up afterwords. I'm wondering about building something myself. Can anyone steer me to a link for a design that works well? This will be a fairly small shop 12 x 12. Need to collect dust from lathe, bandsaw, belt sander, planer, router.

I found this on Craigslist but do not know if this is a good deal or not.

Thanks

Id order a grizzley canister unit and be done with dealing with someone elses used abused equipment.
Its in the same price range, and non canister units are cheaper than that used.

Either of the above are good, but won't work in all situations (I have height restrictions, basement shop, older home). In that case, I would recommend looking a (google) a Thien dust baffle or to this thread and the article it links to:

I'd get a HF model. The are only about $150.00 on sale. I love mine.

A lot of people get and seem to be happy with this one, after modding it with a Wynn filter and different bags, and the above mods. You will need to check prices compared with a canister one already done, and your time and such.

Lots of good advice has been given already.:)

I'm another happy Harbor Freight DC owner. I did a few mods and added the Wynn filter from the get-go (story here), and added a Thien baffle a couple of years later. (Wish I had done it from the start. Jim's wok separator looks like it's also as effective.)

For the price, I don't think it can be beat.
