My friend who introduced me to spiedies has been posting pics on FB of his hometown, Owego. It was almost completely underwater. The only green spot in town was the block his parents lived on, although apparently their basement flooded.

That looks like the southern part of NY state around Binghamton. Remnants of Hurricane Lee. It missed us by about 60 miles according to the local weather dude. We have had historic level flooding here in the past couple of weeks. Hurricane Irene hit very hard-roads gone, bridges gone, homes gone, businesses gone. Major damage to locks in the Mohawk River/Erie Canal. We lost a National Historic Landmark covered bridge-longest single span 2 lane wooden bridge in the country-to Irene. Over 150 yrs old-gone. This week we had more rain again-flooding returned. Not quite as bad as last week. If Lee had made it up this far it could have been far worse than Irene. Definitely dodged a bullet.

Lots of photos of devastation if you search for Schehectady or Schoharie counties.

We were very lucky since we live up on a hill away from the rivers and we have a whole house generator.

Finallt the sun is out today.:thumb:

Brent that's the area i'm from.Have a lot of family in owego, binghamton, and just across the border in Bradford co. PA. They tell me my moms place is under water. She is staying up in the hills with my SIL. My bro is stuck in Elmira and can't get home as the roads are all washed out. he was up there on business.
has your Friend lived in owego all his life? if you have never been there you really need to take a trip and check out the area. It normally is a beautiful place.
