I goitta get out and see the prairies for myself.

Its a Dream

In the morning when I wake up and listen to the sound
Of the birds outside on the roof
I try to ignore what the paper says
And I try not to read all the news
And I'll hold you if you had a bad dream
And I hope it never comes true
'Cause you and I been through so many things together
And the sun starts climbing the roof

It's a dream
Only a dream
And it's fading now
Fading away
It's only a dream
Just a memory without anywhere to stay

The Red River stills flows through my home town
Rollin' and tumblin' on its way
Swirling around the old bridge pylons
Where a boy fishes the morning away
His bicycle leans on an oak tree
While the cars rumble over his head
An aeroplane leaves a trail in an empty blue sky
And the young birds call out to be fed

It's a dream
Only a dream
And it's fading now
Fading away
It's only a dream
Just a memory without anywhere to stay

An old man walks along on the sidewalk
Sunglasses and an old Stetson hat
The four winds blow the back of his overcoat away
As he stops with the policeman to chat
And a train rolls out of the station
That was really somethin' in its day
Picking up speed on the straight prairie rails
As it carries the passengers away

It's gone
Only a dream
And it's fading now
Fading away
Only a dream
Just a memory without anywhere to stay

It's a dream
Only a dream
And it's fading now
Fading away
It's only a dream
Just a memory without anywhere to stay

It's a dream
Only a dream
And it's fading now
Fading away

Yeah Glenn I really envy the naturally creative types. When i see Bills writing, Vaughns turning, Daves painting and Ken guitar playing .....I think i need to go make some curlys with a plane to hear the sound of wood swishing.:D:wave:

Forgive me Rob ... somehow I read it as Neil Diamond instead of Neil Young. Was I ever surprised when he started singing!

Speaking of Neil Diamond, here's a set of replacement lyrics that I wrote a few years ago ... along with a YouTube rendering of the original for you to read along with. Enjoy! (If you can....)

HOLES IN MY SOCKS
(c) 2005 Kerry Burton

Holes in my socks
Ain't no surprise
They're startin' to stink
Bringin' tears to my eyes
No wonder I choose
To keep them in my shoes all the time

Shoes fell apart
Wore through the soles
They left lots of holes here
From my heels to my toes
Leather's all gone
Don't think they'll last one more mile

First, they say they'll serve you
How they all unnerve you
All you find is high-priced footwear
Stocked in every store
When they know they have you
Then they really have you
Nothing you can do or say
You grit your teeth, just swipe and pay
It's all so wrong

You need what you need
They can charge what they want
Not much you can do
When the stitching is gone
May have coat and gloves
But it's cold with those holes in your socks

First, they say they'll serve you
How they all unnerve you
All you find is high-priced footwear
Stocked in every store
When they know they have you
Then they really have you
Nothing you can do or say
You grit your teeth, just swipe and pay
It's all so wrong

Holes in my socks
Ain't no big surprise
They're starting to stink
Bringin' tears to my eyes
Elastic's all gone
Don't think they'll last one more mile
