Table top glue up

I'm starting with a table top for a Sideboard. I'm using African Mahogany 1 inch thick and 6 inches wide. The top is approximately 4 feet long by 2 feet wide. Should I cut the width of the boards in half (3 inches wide) and then glue them together to address cupping and other wood movement? I plan on using breadboard ends.

Thanks, DKT

another vote for best appearance, but make sure you have dry lumber!!!! and then the breadboard ends will control your movement in width.. you can get cupping with the boards going in a best appearance set up if the lumber hasnt been acclimated to your area and shop first.. i had a top on a end table cup on me after glue up that was done for appearance it was corrected by rewetting the top and clamping it down flat actually past flat to allow for spring back..but it stayed after that in the position i wanted i hadnt let it acclimate in the shop first trying to hurry the project along along and paid for it ..
