A co-worker ask me to make a shelf to go on top of one of these organizers for her son's apartment. He's got a couple on top of his counter for storing fruits and vegetables. Since it's a pretty small place I decided I could maybe save him some room and have it double as cutting board. I just sanded it to 220 and put mineral oil on it for the finish.
I know oak isn't the best choice for a cutting board, but didn't have any other wood species handy other than plywood. Given that he's vegetarian, it should be pretty safe, even with the open pores of the oak.
