well i see the gov, is apparently trying to gain more control on the net.. so will this come up for a vote by the people or just be voted on but the gov. officials?

Actually...the manner with which it was shelved..means it will probably never come off the shelf. The committee writing it can make changes but typically the method used to put off bringing it up for a vote generally means it will gather dust until the cows come home and never see the floor to be voted on.....

i wasnt aware it was shelved ken. i have been to a few different sites that were blacked out as though this is a open item yet even google is talking about it in there logo???

Another point of view Larry.

First....I use Wikipedia a lot.

Until a few days ago, Wikipedia was asking for public donations. Do you suppose they got donations from US citizens or any English speaking citizens from any country and now they have the audacity to get involved in US politics? Who is being punished by their "blackout"? Users who speak English.....possible financial contributors.

If the legislation was shelved, I'd think the "blackout" would be unnecessary unless you just wanted to flex your muscles.

Mmmh this is interesting our google.ca page is still up and no mention of the issue. I tried to go to google.com and it will not let me. Keep getting redirected directly to .ca page. I used to be able to select which i wanted to go to.

This whole lot smells to me. We got corporations as bad as governments. Two private clubs that seem to forget their customers or citizens. Guess some boys were looking for campaign donations and others did not want to cough up so each is flexing their weight. We just pawns waiting for our tax bills. :)

Uh Guys, today is a voluntary blackout day by many sites in protest to raise awareness of the issue. I believe most are planning a 12 - 48 hour period. It seems to be working, eh? Wikipedia is one, many others that you would know are joining in.

So there were two bills - one in the house, one in the senate. SOPA got shelved over the weekend by the house. The senate bill, PIPA, was still being considered and supported until yesterday. It seems the blackouts did what they were meant to do. Now neither bill seems likely to see the light of day.

As a producer of web IP, I understand the desire to protect it. In fact, something does need to be done to curb piracy but the internet itself shouldn't suffer in the process. It can be done, but not by people who lack a fundamental understanding of the internet.
