Beautiful wood Chas. What finish did you use?

Ted; Just Cellulose Sanding Sealer to firm up and Seal and burnished on the lathe for starters.
Three stage buffing off the lathe using Chestnut Finishes Mops and C.F. Micro crystalline wax as the finish coat.

If wood has very soft patches I slap on some Melamine reinforced Cellulose Sealer, that will cure harder with time.

Nice piece, are you using a wood Gardner on the rot?
Not familiar with the term wood gardener Dave, presume it may be some form of fungal inducing/killing preparation.

This wood is as harvested from local woodland, either storm damage or end of life felling and is natural fungal growth in storage.

Have never had to induce Spalting, main problem is trying to dry it without it occurring.
