This is one of the goofiest projects I've done. The background is that the daughter of family friends is getting married. It'll be an outdoor wedding, with a theme of the outdoors and natural materials. I volunteered to make part of the table centerpieces - the thing that shows which number table is which. 16 tables, plus two without numbers.

As luck would have it, a road crew came by not long ago and cut down a few trees down the road. The person on whose land the trees were was happy for me to take all the wood. Mostly maple. So the bulk goes in the woodstove, and the rest goes into this:

fortunately for me, they wanted a rustic look. Rustic, as in rough and crude.

now there is a way to make good use of a resource after wedding they can use them for the fire pit and dance and carry on into the night around there big stewing pot:)

What a great idea! They look perfect for the job, too. :thumb:

Quick show of hands: How many of you guys (and girls) out there have carved the initials of you and your sweetie in the bark of a tree (or on a fencepost)?
