I really hate working with sheet goods these days. Heavy, clumsy, and trying to move an eight foot sheet in a garage with obstacles, well, you all know the drill.
I took my time, set up all the tables, laid down the pink boards to cut it on.
carefully set up the track saw, no rushing, Im under no time constraints.
cut up the sides of the sliding hamper cabinet Im working on, cut out the shelves, and measured it all up, nice and square, beautiful with a capital B.

Turned on the radio, some oldies, its 72 degrees outside, so while I didnt have any machines on, opened the doors, had some coffee, sat in the chair, listened to some music, enjoying the weather, the smell of sawdust, ah....it just doesnt get any better on a nice spring day.

set up the dados, measured, remeasured, and just because I measured again.
Made all my dado cuts for the case assembly.
uh oh.........I lined up the middle piece the wrong way, (2 sides, one middle piece), the dados I cut from the top, not the bottom, didnt line up.
No problem, one side doesnt have dados, so Ill just turn it and recut it, fill in the dados even though its inside a cabinet.
cut the dados, incredible, I cut it wrong again.
I didnt get aggrevated, things happen.

Lifted the rest of the sheet, took my time, recut down to size I needed for cabinet center.
Put the dados back in, used the side to line up the dados into the new center wall.
Like I had brain damage, I actually cut it the third time wrong again.

things went flying. alot of things went flying, and foul language was used.

I turned that piece around, and finally, I cut it right, just have the wrong dados once again on the inside and will fill them in if it bothers me eventually.

4 times to get it right. 4 times. simple simon stuff, 4 times.

I decided thats it, shut the lights, call it a day and I drove over to the Big A, figured I catch a race or maybe hit the craps machine.

the day turned out ok, I caught a couple of good rolls, came home with a nice win, maybe Ill put it to some wood and let my wife spend the rest.

Not sure if I want to go down and re poly the other cabinet, just may not be the right woodworking day for me today.

Just sharing my day.

On the bright side Allen, you're consistent. :D I know the feeling of cutting dadoes repeatedly wrong. In fact, I'll bet you and I used some of the same words to describe it to ourselves.

And congrats on the good day at the roulette machine. I went to one of the local casinos for dinner last Friday night...ended up having the $2.00 cheeseburger and going home with an extra few hundred bucks in my pocket courtesy of a friendly 25 cent slot machine.

Those are the series of things that drive me back inside sometimes ;-) I forget if it was here or elsewhere . . . there was a thread where a guy had cut the wrong profile on a large pergola top beam; not the kind of material you can pick up just anywhere. He eventually acquired another piece of material and . . . did it again.

We used to call those "snowball days" because they always just seemed to snowball... It was usually best to end it and do something else before we made a costly mistake....

You weren't thinking of this cut, were you?

On the plus side, I did get all five pieces cut to the exact same dimensions. They were wrong, but they were exact. And yes, I had to go buy more redwood and mill it to size again.

I didnt do any drawings or sketches, I just wrote down some measurements, figured out how much depth I needed, etc....then started cutting, and my ideas in my head didnt exactly pan out right in the flesh.(or should I say in the wood)
my first error, was I cut out a dado on the bottom of an outside wall, not necessary, but a small face frame will cover it.
I wanted to put a small cabinet door on the lower right, but my hinges are 5/8th overlay, and I didnt want a face frame over the open shelves, but that plan is moot so I can fit on the hinges.
and then theres the third cut dados that were off.
My mistake was not turning it top or bottom, I didnt allow for the 3/4 inch shorter the center wall was. (clear in the pictures the dados were off 3/4 inch)
and my last error, was that I didnt allow that 3/4 inch and the shelving space is not even, but thats not a big deal, I didnt want to recut it all.
Id toss the entire thing if the plywood didnt cost 60 bucks a sheet.

the good news is, that the sun will come out again, and tomorrow is another day.

Well i guess i have this skill in common with you. Cant even begin to count how many times i have put something on my lathe but wrong way round and when i wake up to it i gotta cut out the centre because of the baseplate screw holes.
I would like to hear of someone that has not done something equivalent.
Good philosophy though
..sun will shine tomorrow. :);)

not sure if my design on the fly will work out in the long run. eh.
realized after I shaped the sides of the pull out drawer it might be tough to cover the plywood edges unless I heat on some edge tape.(maybe bend some really thin oak or ash.)
interesting brackets, over full extension, 150 lb, they clip together with a clip in front of drawer rail, and it slides and locks under a tab in back.
I made the slide out a bit oversized, so I can fit a plastic hamper in the future if this canvas one fails.
not sure if Im going to put a small door on the bottom shelf as originally planned, maybe just leave it open, but its nice to be able to hide your junk in the bathroom, just looks neater than stuff laying out on shelves.
was on infusion therapy this week, so I really put close to zero time in the shop, was running out each night after the nurse left to mill up the raised panel door and the ash for the top, figured anything will get this thing finished.
shutting down now till next week.
