This a Norwegian style called flat plane carving. The knife cuts are left and contribute to the character of the piece.











This is a pattern from Harley Refsal.

Yep, that is neat.

I too tired once, a long time ago, to carve something that looked like a person, it ended up as really neat looking firewood:eek::eek:

I guess there are somethings that come naturally, and others that hacks like me need to W-O-R-K on:rolleyes: :D

I have always messed up the figures I have tried to carve. While looking simple, I suspect this is harder than it appears, but I think I'll give that a go!

If you get a copy of Harley's book, he's pretty good at taking it step by step.
Some authors I have tried to follow would go from step to step and they did something they didn't mention and you don't how.
