G0586 jointer for $400. I was tempted.

That's a tough call. I'd think $400 is a good price for that machine. It should work pretty nicely with the regular knives, so it could still be used until you have the funds to get the spiral cutterhead. On the other hand, Westlake Village isn't exactly close to you, and like you said, McMillan Machinery Moving is temporarily out of business. :D And when you add up the ultimate prices of everything to get it delivered and set up the way you want, you're not too far off from the cost of a new 3 hp machine with a mobile base and spiral head.

I think you made the right decision. :yes:
 
i havnt seen the numbers like vaughn has but if your close in the total of the old machine with the upgrades then buy new.. its worth the wait for a spiral head setup.. i am still wishing i had dropped the coin for a up grade on my planer.. and if can figure out a way i am gonna do it.. they are so much nicer and quieter as well
