I made this last year but haven't used it in awhile. I brought it out to do some final sanding on a bowl a few weeks ago and took some pics. It's made out of 2 1 X 8tpi bolts that are 6" long I think. I cut the "top" of one of them, ground away half of the stem to create a flat surface. Then I tapped the "top" of the other bolt to attach them together which enables me to set it at different angles. The bolt is set in a an old banjo my grandpa made up out of a pipe and some steel. I bolted that to some scrap wood and use a vice to make it all stable. Works great for me and only cost about $5 for the bolts.
I have some ideas in my head that the carving stand should come in handy...hope to have some time to use it more very soon.
