Then found out that Alice has a leaky hydraulic cylinder that actuates the bucket. Does anyone know if there is a way provided to tighten the packing on a cylinder? Trying to avoid Shop time & parts cost. I need Alice to dig a ditch soon.

Bart, it probably is an O ring. Here, http://shopfloortalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34005&highlight=hydraulics is a discussion concerning cylinders. Scroll about half way down the page and you will see the photo of the cylinders torn apart. Not much to them. Hopefully this sheds some light. If you can't see the pics, might have to register, pretty painless like here. Good luck. Also in that thread, someone provides an excellent source for parts for cylinders.

It depends on the type of cylinder. If you have a chevron style rod packing, you can tighten them. Usually unlike valves this requires adding shim under the rod gland retainer. Depending on the type of cylinder construction, working on the rod packing can be easy to impossible.

If the leak is anywhere but the rod gland then it's probably just an oring. Take a picture of the rod gland if that's where it's leaking. Or if you have a drawing of the cylinder?
