You have probably seen his ads in the trade rags or bumped into him at a show. Damon Stathatos owns and operates Sierra Madre Sawing and Milling. Although he has a wide array of wood processing tools (Northfields, Diehls, SCMI, Tannewitz and his "small" bandsaw; a 28" Northfield) he has a DeWalt DW734 that is his go-to planer. When he saw mine advertised, he decided he needed a spare. I saw a chance to go and visit the largest inventory of exotics in the state and so, LOML and I put the planer in the trunk and drove out. Here's some pics. There should be more but the sudden over-exposure to tool-porn AND wood-porn in one full gale blast disrupted the link between my brain and my camera (that I stupidly carried all over but, seldom used). I didn't even get any shots of the larger cocobolo and zircote room . . . just stacks and stacks of it . . . my mouth went dry, my hands shook and I got dizzy . . . pic-police, please forgive me.

so how much wood did you come home with?:)

I purposely took the car and not the truck. As it turns out, this was a mistake as Damon had a stack of walnut there. He doesn't normally deal in walnut as it is available so many other places. I see a return trip in my future . . . in the truck.

Wow, I never knew that place existed. And it's not all that far from home when I'm in LA. Looks like a real candy store for sure. :thumb:

Glenn was here today so I got to see the pics first hand---Also just happened to get a bowl making kit (you can call it a piece of wood if you insist).

We had a great time and Glenn got to spend the day doing his most favorite thing (except for plumbing which he likes more)---working with my computer.

Lots'a fun and lots'a laughs and an extremely happy mother. We really did it in style. We went out to that famous resturant, Chez Denny's.

Enjoy,

JimB

I would actually be scared of a afternoon with the Bradley bunch. :thumb::rofl: I dont think i would have enough tears in my eyes left after all the laughing i could imagine going on. Never mind the stomach cramps.

Glenn you gotta be one of the most disciplined people i know of to visit a candy store like that and not take a truck along with you. Especially since you have one. BUt something tells me a return trip is not too far off. ;)

I got one close to me and frankly i get scared to go there. I think i am gonna go and take some pics to share here for all to see. But price also goes with the territory.:(
