Don't think I need the drive bay.

I am going to try using canned air to blow things out a bit first, because I didn't used to have any problems with over heating & with a standard fan blowing around & under the laptop it works fine. I have always had it elevated on top of a piece of paneling with 2 3/4" strips to allow air to get underneath it.

I tell you what, when those little fans in a laptop get clogged, they heat things up and slow down something fierce.

Use the canned air for sure.

I use a small piece of plywood with a strip to keep the laptop raised up a little bit.

Keep in mind, I've got tons of the little 12 volt pc fans and little wall wart power supplies hanging around, but I'd probably just right something up with one of those fans, some wood, and a powersupply.

Instructables should have some good ideas... http://goo.gl/HFcIg

The notebooks are designed to operate with the internal fans. But the fans and the screens get clogged with dust and other stuff. I take mine out into the shop and use my air compressor to blow it out whenever I start to have temperature problems. Fixes the problem until the next time.

How old is the laptop and how well do the batteries keep charged when not on the power supply? The reason I ask, my wife's was getting extremely hot, found the batter charger was attempting to charge a bad battery. I ordered a new battery and not had the issues with heating up.

About 1 1/2 year old Toshiba I3 core. Every once in a while I run it on the battery & recharge it.
