Thanks Jeff, I assume you meant for it to be copied. I have already saved it to my desktop and sent a version to be printed and then will send that to the copier to make one for each lathe in the school shop. Thank you.
Jonathan...yes feel free to use it. I don't remember where I saw the first version of this...might have been here years ago. I put mine in one of those plastic sleeves from a 3 ring binder as finish and green wood spews onto it quite a bit...I need to change it out cuz it's looking pretty nasty right now.
I always post a version of that at the front of every class I teach and during my first teaching demonstration explain what each one means. I believe the SAFER concept originated with Keith Rowley an English turner.
This is really good.
I am not an English teacher but when talking about safety it would be better to spell it right.
Work S.A.F.E.R!
S -Speed compatible with the size of the wood to be turned?
A -Aside - Stand out of the “Firing Line”
F -Fastened - Are all locking handles secured?
E -Eye Protection - Safety Glasses and Face-shield
R -ROTATE -The wood freehand to spin freely
I'll be hanging it on my wall too. Reading it a dozen times a day and checking the list every time I stop for anything turning green wood has to be a good practice.
