Interesting Article on House Wrap

Thanks Stu,

A few observation's.

Note, it's early, and a I buzzed through it.

The part about " I would still use felt"

Nonsense

He contradicts himself when he says House wrap is all about the installation.

Properly installed house wrap combined with weather guard, a sticky self

adhesive rubber product, when used around windows ,door openings,

will nullify water intrusion. Felt paper just gives up at about 20,25 years.

I have a lot of hands on experience with this in our remodel dept.

He fails to mention the big No-No.

The doit your self improvement fella on a limited budget.

You know who I'am talking about. He is the guy down the street with

wonderful intentions who for some reason, health, broken car, unknown

expense, put a hold on the project after the house was wrapped.

Or maybe just couldn't decide on the color siding.

Leaving this stuff exposed to sunlight for longer then a month.

Sunlight degrades Tyvek and such, the longer it's exposed the worse it gets.

I see this all the time here in the north east.

You must also allow for ventilation for your entire house.

House wrap will seal your house so tight that it becomes a health

issue. Along with rethinking your heat and A/C.

And you thought I just did Gin mills.:D

Yeah Per, I'm sure that there are some other holes in the arguments, but, at least it gives a good description of the various things, with pics! :thumb:

The quote about the felt, is not from the guy who wrote the article, but by some researcher who had his own opinion.

You are one talented guy Per!

I don't know squat about the subject.
But, with all the construction going on in our area, my wife made a wise observation recently. She said that we should invest in the Tyvek company.

Thanks Stu, it was a good read.

I've been using Tyvek since the early eighties while building one-off custom homes. We had a Dupont rep come out to the jobsite one time back then and he extolled the virtues of the product as well as hammering home the importance of a proper install. Tyvek is my housewrap of choice out here in CA.

Thanks again.
