Design Question

I'm working on a design for a little display case and I'm wondering what to do with back of the base. There'll probably be some corner blocks at the front of the base on which the case will sit and be secured. I'd like the base to be flush with the back of the case as I currently have it. Do I just make short returns to the base molding or run a piece all the way across?

I usually make the base seperate from the main carcase, so I run a stretcher (for lack of a better term) across the back of the base to stabilize it. The stretcher doesn't have to be the full height of the base, but that's up to the builder - halfway from the top of the base provides plenty of stability.

Thanks Bill. I wound up drawing it this way.

The case is going to be used to display a small collection of crystals and so I may let those corner blocks into shallow grooves plowed into the base pieces.

That looks real familiar, Dave! I don't normally get too fancy with the back piece, but I like the way you matched the front of the base.
