OSHA Would Love This One

Cool video. You might be surprised how strong that scaffolding is. It moves quite a bit, but structurally I'd bet it's on par with or better than modern steel scaffolding. Bamboo has equal or better tensile and flexural strength than steel, and those are the primary forces on scaffolding.

I saw this in Korea and the PI. It is amazing how strong it is, especially after you get boards on it for working platforms. As for sway, the smiling guy in the last few frames was pulling strips of bamboo bark to tie it to something on the side of the building. If you watch the guy down below who moves back and forth on the frame, where he is there is very little sway.

Vaughn is right on regarding the strength of bamboo, very strong for its weight. That's why it has been used for centuries. It's a type of grass, but I sure wouldn't want to be using it when it was mowing season!
