I finally got back to assemble the parts for the mantle I started back in February. The fellow studding the basement got the angled wall over the firebox crooked, so the top had to be made wider on one side. That makes for a fun time trying to scribe parts to the drywall. Be glad when the finish is on and I can install the parts ( hearthboard, mantle, and top are separate pieces)

Hi Bryan,
Is sheetrock supposed to be straight? (Like Marty...Do it yourself:eek:  ) Your mantle and fireplace surround are strong looking and will really be a super addition to that room. Look forward to the next coat and the finish...Good job:thumb:
Shaz :)

Hi Bryan,
That lacquer takes it to a higher level. That is so rich looking and beautiful.
Your brackets are very handsome, did you design them too?
Can't wait to what it looks like up as it looks fine on the floor! :D

Yes, I made up the design using 4 psc wide laminated form the centre, bandsaw out and then the 2 outside psc are then glued on. Here is the basic size, ajust sizes if needed. They do get big and trimming them square can be a challenge.
