Sanded to 400x, buffed with extra fine steel wool, burnished with turned wood shavings, cleaned with tack cloth, and applied 6 coats of Satin MINWAX WBOM Polyurethane using my "Dipping Method".
Dressed with a Black Titanium/Platinum Hybrid Double Twist Cigar.

Very pretty, Les. I've always been fond of redwood burl. Was the blank stabilized? I've turned redwood burl both stabilized and not, and I much prefer the stabilized stuff.
 
Sure am glad you went with satin...great chunk of wood!!
I'm with Vaughn. Since I can stabilize at will...all burls and punkies get the treatment.
 
I think all the redwood burl pens I've turned have been stabilized, but I've turned some bigger pieces of unstabilized redwood (burl and otherwise). For me, it's pretty easy to over-sand the unstabilized stuff because of the different densities between the growth rings.

I was given what I was told was redwood burl. Certainly looked the same as your wood. The piece I had turned to dust as I turned it. No curls just dust.
