Had a chat with a guy on smoking-food forum a few days ago. Some of may already know this so it's old hat. He suggested wire shrinking the therma probe on thermometers (the Taylor I'm using) to the connection cable. Reasoning is the there is substantail moisture in a smoker, albeit headed out the exhaust. Shrink wraping stops moisture corrosion at the probe connection. Done!

Sounds like a good idea. How much temperature will shrink wrap tolerate and does it give off any toxicity at elevated temperatures?

I did check on that Al. Since smoker stuff is usually low temp...it's good to about 400*. There is a Hi-Temp version in stores, but I already had a stash. Even on the BBQ, I seldom do anything over 400.
