Funny thing, that, Dave. I had a regular old face shield that I used for years, and while I did blow up a few bowls (because I did something stupid once they were thin), nothing ever came at me. Then comes my new Bionic face shield. Something just told me it was time for a new one (note: ALWAYS listen to that little voice!). I looked at the Bionic and it had some pretty good reviews... and I liked the fact that the shield is framed. So I bought one and my first turning after getting it was a 7" piece of Black Jack Oak. I had it chucked up and it turned out to have a check that I couldn't see. Anyway, 2/3s of it broke away and would have caught me right across the bridge of the nose (and eyes) had I not been wearing my new Bionic. I've had two more pieces from that same tree come apart on me now and I refuse to turn without it!
Safety is so very important, guys.
