turning a maple drawer pull

Dave, Dave, Dave. How many times do we gotta repeat it? Wear face protection at the lathe. Always. It's not for if you get hit, it's for when you get hit. Because it's almost certain that a turner is gonna get hit at some point. It's even more likely to happen to beginners or even experienced guys like you who doesn't turn a lot.

Glad it wasn't any worse than just a wake-up call, bud. ;)

Dave get yourself one of these so you can oneday manage to see your grandchildren.

Cheap when u think you cannot replace eyes.

While you at it add one of these to your order then you will be able to breath when the grandchildren are around.

This dust mask fits comfortably under the bionic face mask.

Note the cheapo face shields that dont have support on their lower edge fold up when hit by flying objects.

Funny thing, that, Dave. I had a regular old face shield that I used for years, and while I did blow up a few bowls (because I did something stupid once they were thin), nothing ever came at me. Then comes my new Bionic face shield. Something just told me it was time for a new one (note: ALWAYS listen to that little voice!). I looked at the Bionic and it had some pretty good reviews... and I liked the fact that the shield is framed. So I bought one and my first turning after getting it was a 7" piece of Black Jack Oak. I had it chucked up and it turned out to have a check that I couldn't see. Anyway, 2/3s of it broke away and would have caught me right across the bridge of the nose (and eyes) had I not been wearing my new Bionic. I've had two more pieces from that same tree come apart on me now and I refuse to turn without it!

Safety is so very important, guys.
