Just a real quick spoon knocked out after work last night. Not 100% sure on the wood, its whatever I got out of a friends tree - we have a shortish list but aren't positive on the ID. This is an "eating" style spoon more or less. and about 6" long.

Very nice spoons. What tool(s) do you whittle something like a spoon with?

bandsaw to rough the outside shape.

a couple of gouges to rough the bowl

roughed the handle shape with a drawknife (but other tools work fine as well) and refined with a wide chisel. I've been using a 1" chisel as a carving tool a lot lately for some reason. I like that you can avoid the corners easily with it and do "slicing" cuts. Probably means I need to sharpen up some knives or something :D

Same wide chisel to do the bulk of removal on the outside of the bowl (play with the drawknife for that but I really need better workholding for that.. thinking of making a shave pony).

made somewhat extensive use of my iwasaki carving file (medium flat, also have a half round and looove both of them) to cleanup the curves and finish the outside of the bowl.
