Looks more like he's using a couple of scrapers to me. The steel looked too thin to be a bedan. I think he's just scraping wood dust off instead of cutting wood shavings.

Watches the video again... I think you're right.

I was watching a series on making chairs the other day. The guy was impressively good with a drawknife and spokeshave, but his lathe work was kinda terrifying and painful to watch (I'm sure someone who was better would think the same about me.. but still.. considering he uses the tool for every chair pretty much.. :eek:).
