Providence Rhode Island State Seal - CNC plaque

No - I am NOT going to finish this anytime soon.

The little pile of wood will stay waiting for me.

I am NOT going to be cutting this over the weekend.

Well - at least that is what I SHOULD be doing

A1 Jointer Face.jpgA2 Jointer edge.jpg

So I face jointed and edge jointed.

No need to get too fancy on the facing - I just need a "little" flatness.

A4 parallel cut.jpg

I then cut to make the opposite edge parallel.

A5 sand to determaint orientation.jpg

I sanded with 36 grit - just enough to be able to see the wood face so I could orientate

A6 glue up.jpg

For the pureist that is watching. I am not a believe - but I did it today, just because.

A6 end grain.jpg

I have made MANY MANY panels with orientation the WRONG way, and not had a problem.
I have made 50-70 panels now - rarely ever lined up like this.
Even at this - I am not totally happy here - because of some defect orientation.

Sooooooo - maybe over this coming 4 day weekend

Just so you know - I have not dropped this.

It's an in between labor f love and I work on it a little at a time.

As I was cutting it on the machine and the cutting was getting closer to the middle of the dished area - it cut through the material.

That was poor planning on my part.

So - I don't want to trash it.

It will never be sold - it will hang in my shop - to me - as a testament that I need to be thinking about what I am doing.

It is also a learning piece. This is meant to push MY bar higher - and THAT - it is doing.

I am also getting a pile of learning into the rotary tool world.

I glued a block onto the back and I will carve away - as best as I can - learning all the way through.

Since the pics - I have progressed further along.

So - without a lot of explanation here are a few shots

Aw man, that bites. Having found the outside edge of a bowl via the inside a few times myself, I know the feeling. My sympathies and empathy.
