item 5 of 9 for the state fair

got a little bit more along the way today. sanded and oiled the cocobolo and olivewood checkers, cut the dadoes in the frame parts, cut the miters, and did the first test assembly. with that done, i had found that there were a few things that need to be tended to, slight adjustments here and there.

you got that right ol son! made the adjustments to the framework, then checked the placement of the checkers, dice cups (yes, i know the bottoms aren't finished yet), and the doubling cube. i found that i had to take a touch off of the dividers, then they all fit quite nicely. then i trimmed the end off of the long divider and it fit just right. going to work on the other set tomorrow. i may take a touch off of the height of the dividers, to make access to the checkers a little easier.

after finishing up with the chair, off to the backgammon set. first i took a touch off of the divider parts and was quite happy with the way it looks now. then it was on to cutting to size the small dividers for both sides. then for the fun of it, set the board up for a game.

got a bit more done today (technically very late last night at work). laid out the baize for the playing surfaces and glued them in place. after checking with the frames, i will have to make a few modifications. then i found that i was wrong about the need to run the long divider through the planer, and set everything up to be on the safe side. also sanded and oiled the edges and inside surfaces of the frames. i have decided to go with the flat blo only finish for the dividers and the edges that will make contact when the box is closed, to avoid any issues with the frames sticking to themselves.
