This is the latest of the blue lathe [see below post] Silky Oak bowl with open spirals finished with BLO and satin WOP it will be buffed witha tradintional wax later.

Al its a special kind of wood that grows with those spiral grain inclusions in it and Neil lives in the area that they grow very well in:)

I knew that! I grow "spiral" melons that look very similar to that. After planting I go out & give each one a twist every day. I call it the "twist-a-day" technique and they love me for it! This way they have a place to spit out their seeds so I don't have to do it. After a few days of training they do it all by themselves. I call them my "Smart Melons". Then there are the "Dumb Melons" that just sit there & watch the others grow & twist. Oh well, no one said it would be easy.
