I just received my Damar crystals so another day before I can repair the tares.
But I did clean the other painting the customer brought in.
This is smokers dirt on a early 1800's landscape 14x29

A bit time consuming cleaning about a 2" sq at a time any more then that and I risk the possibility of removing paint.

Just a cleaning job to remove the smoke and air dirt but still fun to do as I uncover the original beauty of this painting.

That golden tone landscapes are my favorite. So many are green sumertimes. I like this color.

When it was dirty, it was so muted I'd probably not have hung it. But now, yes!

Good job!!

The cleaning process is finished on this. Minor dirt, mostly smoke damage. The repairs an ready to be worked today. This is the cleaning process;
Mild solution of a solvent to lift the smoke off the canvas:

Is the fabric glued to the back sufficient to hold the tears? Do you have to manually align the fibers along the tear, or can you just paint over the actual tear? How do you keep it looking even when seen from the side?

Your work is amazing... largely magic to my eye.
