Return of the Chestnut

When I was a kid I remember seeing a few live chestnut trees. They grew till they started producing nuts then in a few years they were dead. I remember the nuts were a lot smaller than the Chinese chestnut, the burs were similar. I hope this system lets them get restarted.

Well, what have I been roasting over an open fire all these years??

Castanea sativa = sweet chestnut or Spanish Chestnut is the mighty tasty edible one, a winter tradition in our house, not to be confused with horse chestnut (conkers for conker fights). This year the wife's asthma has gotten worse so we won't have as many fires as usual, but when we do there will be some chestnuts roasting :)
